Recently, the storied manufacturer of pipe tobacco, Gawith Hoggarth, released several of its most popular blends that up to now have only been available in a fine shag cut, in a more traditional ribbon cut format. As you might expect, the change in the thickness of the cut plays a part in how the blend will perform. But how much? In this pipe focused episode, we will look at one of these tobaccos, Dark Birds Eye smoking both the "Classic" shag cut version, and the new "Vintage" ribbon cut just released. What is the difference? Does it offer something new? Is it an improvement? And more importantly, is this something you should be on the hunt for?

PCA Releases

July 24th (aka 7/24) is always a huge day at Twins Smoke Shop, the national home of the famous boutique cigar brand, 7-20-4. Building up to that celebration, we will be focused on 7-20-4 cigars for the weeks leading up to that event. Today we continue looking at a cigar that Kurt Kendall made available at the PCA this year, the 7-20-4 Hustler Five & Dime. For our pipe tobacco, we look at Cornell & Diehl's PCA timed release, Anthology. 
Speaking of pressing, Cornell & Diehl recently released a new variant of their popular Haunted Bookshop tobacco as a crumble cake. The original blend is available in tins as well as in bulk--which is how we carry it at Twins. Is this new format worth getting? Celebrating 7-20-4

July 24th (aka 7/24) is always a huge day at Twins Smoke Shop, the national home of the famous boutique cigar brand, 7-20-4. Building up to that celebration, we will be focused on 7-20-4 cigars for the weeks leading up to that event. Today we start with a limited-edition cigar that Kurt Kendall blended for The Club Humidor shop in Texas. Extremely limited, these sold out quick. The cigar was a first for Kurt Kendall on two points: it was his first Honduran puro, and his first box pressed project.

Cultic Cigars and Tobaccos with Cult Followings

If you have spent any time at all in the world of cigars, you know that there are a number of brands out there that have achieved cult status. Take for example Drew Estate's Liga Privada line. Drew Estate's "Nasty" Nick Laramie joins us as we discuss cigar cults and their followers while we light up the Liga Privada No. 9 Robusto. Does the coveted No. 9 blend live up to its reputation?
In the second half of the show, we planned to crack a tin of one of Mac Baren's HH Bold Kentucky, reputed to be the strongest in the HH line. But Pastor Padron pulled an audible and brought some Esoterica Penzance (does any other pipe tobacco in production have such a cult following?) as we continue the debate on tobaccos with cult followings.
